FASTag technology was introduced to reduce traffic congestion at toll plazas and speed up the process. However, long queues and traffic jams continued to be a problem. To address this, NHAI has implemented new rules from February 17. According to these rules, if you recharge FASTag upon reaching the toll plaza, it will be blacklisted. Users are given a 70-minute window for this. Many people wonder whether multiple FASTags can be used for a single vehicle. Let's find out.
Can a Vehicle Have Multiple FASTags?
Earlier, it was possible to have multiple FASTags for a single vehicle. Vehicle owners could link FASTags from different banks to their vehicles. However, NHAI has now changed this rule.
Only One FASTag Per Vehicle Now!
Under the new rules, only one FASTag is mandatory for a vehicle. You can link only one FASTag from a single bank to your vehicle.
Why Did NHAI Implement This Change?
Having multiple FASTags created confusion not only for users but also for toll operators. To eliminate this issue, NHAI has enforced the rule of one FASTag per vehicle.
What Happens If Multiple FASTags Are Linked to a Vehicle?
If multiple FASTags are linked to a vehicle, only the most recently used FASTag will remain active, and all others will be deactivated.
What is the New FASTag Rule?
- If a FASTag remains inactive for more than 60 minutes before crossing the toll and remains inactive for 10 minutes after crossing, the transaction will be declined.
- The system will display 'Error Code 176' and reject the payment.
What Should You Do?
- Use Only One FASTag – Ensure that your vehicle has only one active FASTag.
- Recharge on Time – Recharge your FASTag before reaching the toll plaza.
- Check FASTag Status – Make sure your FASTag is active and functioning properly.
By understanding and following these new rules, you can avoid any inconvenience at toll plazas.
